5 FAQ’s about the 2G Flicx Home Academy

As well as helping to transform grass fields to cricket facilities or one of the many other applications of the worlds most versatile cricket pitch, it remains a very popular way to create your very own Lords in your own back yard or garden … Here are some of the most commonly asked questions

Flicx Home Academy

Flicx Home Academy

  1. What is a Flicx Home Academy?

The Flicx Home Academy is a cricket training set up for the home environment which allows young players to hone their techniques without any damage to the surrounding areas. Typically the home academy package is made up of a 2G Flicx Batting End (10, 7 or 4m), a cricket net system and a bowling machine. Players can play and practice their batting or bowling techniques at a realistic intensity on a pitch which delivers a consistent bounce.

2. How should the pitch be installed and secured in the garden environment?

Flicx UK recommend some initial preparation of the ground to ensure the best possible performance. By that we mean ..

  1. cutting the grass very short
  2. level of all high spots and fill in hollows with a suitable clay based loam

It does not require to be secured by nails or anything else. It can be settled on to the surface by just walking up and down on it. Laying it in this way will give excellent performance straight away. We provide full installation and maintenance guidance

3. Can the pitch be laid and then left for the whole summer? What is the performance like …

Yes the pitch can be rolled out and left for the whole summer but for the home environment (unless a roller is available to go over the pitch) it is best to roll up the pitch each week and cut the grass again (low to the roots). The growing grass tends to lift the pitch off the ground.

4. How heavy is a 2G Flicx batting end? Will one adult be able to move it on their own?

The 10m batting end is 67 kgs, the 7.5m batting end is 40 kgs whilst the 4m throwdown is 20 kgs. The 7.5m and the 4m products can be easily moved by 1 adult. Flicx recommend that the 10m batting end is transported on the Flicx safety trolley.

Straps are provided to fix the pitch in a roll. Whilst rolled up we would recommend that the pitch is stored in a garage or shed if possible.

5. What do customers say about the Flicx home academy?

“The Flicx Home Academy is a great system for the development of your game in the safety of your own home. I would certainly recommend it for all up and coming cricketers. It is ideal to have as pre season and post season training.”- Jimmy Cook – ex South African Test Cricketer and previous coach for Hampshire (also father to Stephen Cook who recently scored a test century on debut against England)

Initial good ground preparation is paramount to getting the best performance from the 2G Flicx pitch, it needs to be level in terms of high spots and low spots with very short grass. You can choose from any of the 3 Flicx Pitch designs with various colours and branding options also available.

Playing Backyard Cricket in style … could the BGOC format boost ECB participation numbers?

Watching the Big Bash and seeing what bumper crowds it has attracted this season, it is clear to see Australian Cricket is getting a lot right at the moment. Whilst Backyard Cricket has always been popular down under, its been taken to a whole new level this year with Channel 10’s partnership with Biggest Game of Cricket (BGOC) from the Ponting Foundation where people are encouraged to have fun playing “Australia’s favourite game” and raise funds to help young Australians and their families beat cancer.

Ten’s winning family, the Mitchell’s then hosted the likes of Gilly, Fred and Punter in a show-piece backyard cricket match at Taree in NSW and the video is fantastic if you haven’t seen it yet…

Did you know, the Flicx Pitch can help here … you can use our 2G Flicx Pitch in the backyard with minimal preparation and it can be used both permanently or as a roll out, roll up option. We would love to get involved in the 2017 BGOC so Ricky, let us know if we can help your event next year (we would love to create a nice blue, BGOC logo’d pitch for you)

Backyard Cricket at the Mitchells

Backyard Cricket at the Mitchells

Moving closer to home in the UK perhaps its an idea that Sky Sports and the ECB could get behind by means of boosting participation levels … NB – might need to be called garden cricket or something else given we don’t really have backyards but the sentiment remains … lots of people, enjoying cricket with their family at home and then possibly taking it to the next level and raising money for charity with a national event … What do you think?
