Is your club looking to improve its facilities this season?

“We delighted to  go into what is now our second season with the 2G Flicx Pitch-  The new pitch has shown it is so much more versatile than its predecessor. The biggest development of all is that it can be used safely and successfully indoors-  thus making it a truly adaptable cricket pitch that can be used in both summer and winter.”

The discount deal coincides with the first Cricket Club Expo event taking place at Lord’s this Saturday where the pitch will be available for demo by visiting clubs. Feedback on the 2G Flicx Pitch which launched at the same series of events last year has been hugely positive with the key benefit being the versatility of the product which can be used both indoors and outdoors. 2G Flicx Pitch, Harvard Cricket Club Case Study – Guest blog by Manik Kuchroo

In the United States, cricket is slowly but surely taking off. Though not quite as popular as it is in India, Australia or England, leagues such as American College Cricket (ACC) have been on the rise. Populous centers, such as New York, now have over 100 teams across 4 different state leagues.

With the advent of American College Cricket in 2009, over 70 colleges, including Harvard, have developed teams. Since cricket fields are not as numerous as clubs, a problem arises: where will all these teams play? Some teams in the ACC opted to play on field hockey fields with a long straight boundary and short square ones. Though Harvard played on the local Jordan Field Hockey field for a few years, we decided last year to look for a better option that could give the team a more authentic cricketing experience. Since building a full cricket field is expensive, we decided to look into drop in or roll out pitches in order to convert any field into a cricket field.

The 2G Flicx Pitch at Harvard CC

The search for a cheap, good surface to play cricket on led the team to the new 2G Flicx Pitch technology from Flicx UK. Initially, we were skeptical – could a synthetic roll out pitch really behave like a true turf wicket? After talking to a few other local players with experience with Flicx, the team decided to give it a shot. With the help of Mahindra USA, one of the Harvard Cricket Club’s sponsors, we purchased a 2G Flicx wicket. This was one of the best decisions the Club has made to date. After an initially period of up and down bounce in the first few games, we realized that if we rolled the pitch for just 15 minutes before the game, the bounce became even, consistent and true. Furthermore, it did not slip when attached to either synthetic of grass surfaces.

We now play most of our games on the  2G Flicx pitch and are able to experience cricket as it should be – on a true ground with a true pitch. This experience has helped us improve tremendously over other local teams in the area. Currently ranked third in the nation, the Harvard Cricket Club now heads to the collegiate cricket nationals in March as one of the favourites to win the tournament.

Flicx UK would like to thank Manik Kuchroo, President and Captain of the Harvard Cricket Club for writing this blog for us – you can find more information about his team via their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/HarvardCricketClub or website www.harvardcricket.org

The weird and wonderful world of Gnome Cricket

Having recently blogged on how the Flicx Pitch has taken cricket to places where it has never been played before such as the recent Mt Kili Madness trek to the top of Africa, I think a little closer to home we have stumbled across something which dwarfs that game in terms of it being even more crazy and wonderful… This ladies and gentleman is Gnome Cricket – a game which goes where gnome man has gone before.

Gnome Cricket is the brainchild of Yorkshire CCC fan and blogger Lady Lainey who snapped up her gnome men at a cricket festival and as the collection grew the team became the legendary “The gentlemen of Tykeshire CCC” … check out Ryan Gnome  – its uncanny!

Team line up

Tykeshire CCC team line up

Given the Flicx team’s expertise in transforming cricketing venues (see Littletown CC), once we saw the view from Lady Lainey’s kitchen (Gnome sweet gnome – in the extensive grounds of Chateau de Champions ) and the playing strip made out of a worn out old piece of carpet, we simply had to intervene. We created a bespoke piece of pitch to fit said flower bed and got it sent up to the groundskeeper Lady Lainey… It is said that the gnomes at first were a little bowled over by the new gift!!

After some weeding and digging, the pitch was ready to go down and ungnome to us some brand new floodlights (solar lights) were installed too … I think you will agree that it looks fantastic and we are aware that Yorkshire captain Andrew Gale has already been approached to cut the ribbon on the new cutting edge facility!! You can read more from Lady Lainey on her blog (Read More), indeed there is also a blog on the pitch installation from the Gentlemen of Tykeshire CCC themselves too (Read More). With cricket in the headlines recently for all of the wrong reasons, least its set in stone with this bunch that there will be no scandals, just a good old fashioned, honest game of the sport that we all love.

If you have any gnome puns of your own, do comment below!! 🙂

The 2G Flicx Pitches are on the ball with Dukes

From the very top model as used exclusively in UK Test Matches to the junior model used in schools cricket, the Dukes dedication to quality is relentless which is why Flicx UK have officially approved them for use on new 2G Flicx Pitches.

Dukes becomes the approved ball of the 2G Flicx Pitch

Dukes becomes the approved ball of the 2G Flicx Pitch

The origins of DUKES cricket ball making can be traced back to the year 1760 when production started in the Tonbridge area of Kent. The skills have been refined and handed down through the generations. The same meticulous care and attention is paid to all the traditional processes in addition to new technology to ensure that products of the highest standard are made available for the game at all levels today with only the very best raw materials are used to protect the brand’s reputation for top quality.

DUKES is responding to the demands of the modern game by using new advanced technology to produce long lasting surface white and brightly coloured cricket balls for Limited Overs cricket and possible “Day/Night” Test Matches. Another major breakthrough is an exclusive process to ensure very good shape retention whilst retaining the right “feel” on the bat.

Speaking about the first cricket ball to be officially recommended for use with a new 2G Flicx Pitch managing director Richard Beghin said ” We have been using the Dukes ball for many years with Flicx Pitches. The ball has a hard varnish and a quality finish which means it performs exceptionally well and is very durable and so its great to make this partnership official and add the Flicx branding. Whilst this is an approved ball, other cricket balls can of course be used on a Flicx Pitch”.

Anyone interesting in buying these Dukes products specially for use on a Flicx Pitch should contact Flicx directly on 01295 816765

Play Cricket on your synthetic with a 2G Flicx Pitch

Increase your club or schools cricketing capacity with the versatile 2G Flicx Pitch…

The Flicx Pitch in Lanzarote

The Flicx Pitch in Lanzarote

One of the most popular applications of a Flicx Pitch is to convert an existing sports field into a cricket venue. 2G and 3G artificial pitches including astroturfs, rubbbercrumbs and waterbased synthetics can all be transformed into cricket pitches in hardly any time, just by rolling out a Flicx Pitch. No prior preparation will be needed and there will be no damage to the surface underneath. The new 2G Flicx Pitch range from Flicx UK is a softer product and is therefore easier to roll out whilst still producing a great consistent bounce enabling you to play cricket all year round. Whether it be an indoor cricket league or an outdoor match then the Flicx Pitch is a great cost effective solution to improving the quantity and quality of your training.

  • Convert existing sports fields into instant cricket fields
  • No damage to under surface
  • Meets ECB specifications for roll out pitches on synthetic surfaces
  • Good consistent bounce
  • Takes seam and spin- providing a good reflection of a turf pitch

The “Pitch for a Pitch” competition winners are…

Flicx UK and the Cricketer Magazine would like to congratulate Littletown CC who have been announced as the winners of our “Pitch for a Pitch” competition and will receive a brand new 2G Flicx Pitch to further aid the redevelopment of the club which is based in County Durham.

The Littletown CC story spoke of how the clubs facilities had been transformed from an overgrown mess into a field of dreams thanks to the hard work and dedication for the local community. We are sure a 2G Flicx Pitch will help the club develop further and we will be sure to follow their journey as the new pitch is received.

Background to the new 2G Flicx Pitch from Flicx UK

When Flicx founder Richard Beghin realised there weren’t enough facilities for the increasingly popular sport of cricket in South Africa, he developed the Flicx Cricket Pitch and in August 1997 the first one was rolled out at Telkom Country Club in Pretoria.

In 1999, after creating a successful business in South Africa, Flicx launched in the UK at the England and Wales Cricket coaching conference where the so called “lego” pitch was met with a tremendous response with the ECB ordering 800 for grassroots cricket in the UK while the ICC went on to order Flicx Pitches for the development of the sport all around the world. Flicx has grown to being a well-recognised and respected brand in cricketing circles, with pitches, batting ends and throwdown’s being purchased by many clubs and schools and even by individuals wanting to transform their back garden into a cricket pitch!

Now, new for the 2014 season and manufactured in the UK, we present the 2G Flicx Pitch which is a new surface with improved grip and playing performance. Unlike its predecessor, the 2G Flicx pitches can be made bespoke to order with the colours and branding of your choice and also comes with an expanded product range featuring the colourful new Skills pitch and an innovative Eagle-eyed pitch. Both of these new designs aid the coaching of young players maintaining Richard’s belief that we can teach children at all levels, through sport, that life is about team work, individual skills and the will to win and not about selfishness, greed and individualism that they will then have a wonderful opportunity for a better way of life.

Retailing the new Flicx Pitch range

Flicx UK will be working closely with leading sports retailers to market the 2G pitches to cricket clubs and schools in the UK and overseas with recent trials also proving its value as an indoor cricket surface as you can roll out the pitch then play instantly without taping. Speaking about the 2G pitches performance, Dartfordians coach Mike Lanning commented “The bounce using hard balls was good and trustworthy, comparable to an outdoor surface for both seam and spin bowling. The 2G Flicx mat is now allowing us to train much more effectively in the hall with both colts and seniors; we can now, for example, use the bowling machine there for the first time.”

Great marketing support is provided in abundance by the Brackley based business who expect 2G sales in the launch season to double normal figures. Testing and competitions will also help build brand awareness of a product which really does enable cricket to be played anywhere as the company has proved time and again.
