What’s the difference between the 2G Flicx Skills Pitch and 2G Flicx Eagle-eyed Pitch???

The 2G Flicx Pitch is the ultimate cricket match pitch but did you know you can also use this versatile surface as a coaching aid to develop the batting and bowing skills of younger players??

2G Eagle Eyed Pitch

2G Eagle Eyed Pitch

Flicx have developed two coaching pitch designs with bright colours and targets. Choose from either the 2G Flicx Skills pitch or the 2G Flicx Eagle eyed pitch and roll it out on your outfield, in the nets, on top of another synthetic surface or convert a grass field or similar into a cricket training facility.

The Eagle eyed pitch is great for beginners … coloured sections replicate those seen on TV which is both fun and inspiring. At a basic skill level, the coloured tiles are used to develop the ability to bowl at different lengths – with good, short, full and yorker lengths marked out. These visual cues help players focus their deliveries and achieve consistency.

The Skills pitch is the next stage up in a player’s development with the targets assisting with both line and length. Coaches can encourage bowling to the off side or leg side at different lengths whilst batsmen will be able to develop decision making skills and shot selection based on where the ball is pitched.

These coaching designs are available in various lengths and as either a full pitch size or a batting end. Full pitches can be easily split into two to host two smaller mini games which is a great way add fun and challenge to your cricket training and offers great versatility and value for money for clubs and schools.

All 2G Flicx Pitches are now UK made and here’s how!

The original Flicx Pitch was developed and manufactured in South Africa – however now with the advent and development of our 2G product; we have been able to move all production and assembly over to here in the UK which means lower lead times on all orders and completely flexibility over the design and colours of your pitch (for those choosing to move away from our traditional green match pitch)

A full length pitch (22.12m x 1.8m) takes around an hour to put together and is made from a number of these tiles which themselves are manufactured in Suffolk by a plastics company called Roland Plastics Ltd. They specialise in the supply of precision engineered injection mouldings and assemblies in a wide range thermoplastic materials, produced on state of the art machines.

From here, our assembly men ( Rob) pitch together the pitches, clipping and hammering the slots in place before trimming the excess clips from any outer edges. The whole process takes between 1-2 hours. You will notice from our blog and website, that we now also produce two brand new coaching pitches, the skills pitch and the eagle-eyed pitch with the same process applying only with coloured tiles being used in line with the design so with coloured strips to show pitching in line as well as target tiles to aid the skill development of young players.

The pitch rolls out flat the bounce is very consistent which allows clubs to have a high standard of winter training. In addition it’s a great match surface for both juniors and seniors, and means any flat surface or sports field can be transformed into a cricketing venue as well being an instant solution to upgrade a worn synthetic surface

Pativia Solomua from Samoa wins a Flicx Batting End

Flicx UK would like to congratulate Pativia Solomua from Samoa whose entry was successful in the recent ICC EAP competition, to win a Batting End for her community. Pativia’s inspiration story ” Finding the Edge” won by a small margin over Moce Island, Fiji who were second with their entry “Selected to go oversea’s”

Pativia’s story tells of how cricket “brought her back from a life of hopelessness” after the death of her mother and how she has gone onto represent the Samoan national side, before more recently coaching her son and daughter to international success. The competition really showed the passion that our finalist nations Samoa, Fiji and Vanautu have for the game – which also be seen in the video put together for the competition by Adam Cassidy, Regional Project Officer at ICC EAP. Flicx would like to thank Adam and all the finalists for their support in promoting the competition to their networks.

The Flicx pitch was originally developed to take the game to places where it has not been played before, so it’s a great way to create cricketing venues which can in turn get more people playing the sport particularly in countries where cricket is still developing or the climate makes maintaining a wicket more challenging. As well as match pitches, we have a range of coaching products so for any enquiries from the EAP region please contact Paul at Flicx Australia on paul@flicx.com.

Design a new Flicx Pitch…COMPETITION!!

Are you a cricket coach or a budding designer? If so then Flicx UK have a competition just for you as we are looking for new ideas and designs for the 2014 Flicx range. The Flicx Pitch is a great way for juniors to improve their bowling line and length as well as batting technique as marks on the pitch assist players in becoming more consistent acting as coloured target lines.

Design 3 -

Design 1 – Traditional

The image above shows the current traditional Flicx design. It features a Hawk Eye strip through the middle, colour coding for on side and off side created with coloured tiles whilst the two strips behind the stumps are to assist with channel bowling.

Your design could be for any purpose and made in any colour. For example to with aids to help coach kids, to fund raise for a certain charity or based on a bowler or your own innovate ideas.

  • The winning entry will receive a Flicx mat made in their design (7.5 x 1.6 metres ).  All entries which reach the final public vote will also receive runners up prizes.

The file above has been created in excel but entries are accepted in any format. The full match pitch dimensions are 22.12 x 1.8 metres. Q+A with Richard Beghin – MD of Flicx UK … All you need to know about the Flicx Pitch

Rich, Tell us a bit about how the Flicx Pitch products were originally developed…

The Flicx pitch originated in South Africa in the late nineties and was created to help young cricketers who had been brought up in under-privileged townships to develop their game. The pitches are still made in South Africa from recycled plastic. Having moved myself to England myself in 1999 we launched the Flicx pitch at the ECB Coaches Association conference at the NIA; where shortly after we received an ECB contract to supply 799 pitches to inner city schools and deprived areas.

What is unique about the Flicx pitch?

The Flicx pitch is a cost effective way to get a new cricket surface and is generally half the price of synthetic products. It is most frequently used to convert football, rugby or hockey pitches into cricket pitches for the summer- which can then be returned simply by rolling back the Flicx Pitch.

A roll out pitch can convert any sports fields (or surface for that matter!) into a cricket field with no long term damage however some customers choose to embed their pitch permanently into the ground in which case its rolled in and grass grows through it and it is cut like any other crease.

How many Flicx pitches have you installed so far?

We have installed well over 3,500 pitches worldwide from Iceland to China to Russia to right below the Eiffel tower in France… We work very closely with the 5 ICC regions to take cricket to a new audience, providing many youngsters with a new opportunity to enjoy the game. Already this year we have had inquiries from Sierra Leone and the Solomon Islands and will soon be installing on the beautiful island of Vanuatu  (off the East Coast of Australia!)

The Flicx pitch in the London Eye

The Flicx pitch in the London Eye

Is there just one Flicx Pitch?

No – Products range from a full length pitch to shorter batting ends to various different types of coaching pitches with markings on that are used as bowling and batting targets, helping young players with their decision making. We also have our home range which means the product can be easily used in the safety of one’s back garden.

How can clubs/schools/ individuals buy a Flicx Pitch?

We would recommend that you get your Flicx pitch in time for Easter so the pitch is rolled out when the ground is damp. Please ring us directly for a quote 0n 01295 816765 or visit the website www.flicx.co.uk. The other option is to go through any of our approved Flicx Pitch retailers…
