9 applications of the world’s most versatile cricket pitch…

We believe that we have created the worlds most versatile cricket pitch.

You can roll it up, move it around, use it for hard or soft ball cricket for adults or children playing inside or outside – on top of a surface or rolled in for a more permanent wicket … the choice is yours and you can be assured (with correct preparation to the undersurface) of a consistency bounce that will enable great performances with both bat and ball. The Flicx Pitch … Taking cricket to where it has never been played before!

Congratulations  to all those who planned, participated and were involved in the recent successful attempt to play cricket on top of Kilimanjaro – an amazing success.! A special note should go to David Harper, for his vision ,drive and determiation to make this challenge happen… without him I am sure the Mt Kili Madness project would have stumbled on a few occasions.

The Guiness World Record breaking cricket match

The Guiness World Record breaking cricket match

Flicx UK were and are very proud to be involved in both successful attempts to take cricket to new levels. Firstly in 2009, when cricket was played at Everest base camp and now in 2014,  at the top of Kilimanjaro and at a height of over 500 meters above the first successful attempt.  That makes Flicx one of a very few companies to have been involved in both world records, a very proud moment in the short history of our company.

It was in 2004, together with the International Cricket Council (ICC), when we came up with a global campaign called “Taking Cricket to where it has never been played before”. People from around the world were invited to share with us their stories of how cricket had changed their lives.  There were some inspirational stories and photographs of Cricket being introduced to islands such as Vanuatu, how families in PNG were now playing the game… we even have photos of Cricket being played ( on a Flicx Pitch) close to the Eiffel Tower, down a mine, in Egypt close to the Pyramids, up in the high forests in Swaziland, on the ice plains of Sweden and many many more!! Never, did we believe we would be involved in taking cricket to Base Camp Everest and now to the top of Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro.

Flicx will continue on its quest to “Take Cricket to where it has never been played before”-  providing sporting opportunities to communities, and individuals who will benefit from this wonderful game. Next stop the moon please Mr Branson!

Co-founder of Cage Cricket and former Hampshire batsman Lawrence Prittipaul said; “It’s fantastic to have launched the cage at The Ageas Bowl because Hampshire is where cage cricket started. The support of Rod and Sir Ian, amongst others, has been absolutely crucial in getting the whole concept off the ground and to see the cage up and running today is the realisation of a dream for me.”

The Ageas Bowl Cage Cricket cage is now a permanent feature at the ground and one which will be accessible by the general public at any time, including by supporters around the ground at Hampshire and England matches.

Bespoke Flicx Pitch for Cage Cricket is launched

Yesterday at Bagshot Cricket Club, Flicx UK and Cage Cricket launched a new Flicx pitch designed exclusively for use in Cage Cricket at the #BossOfBeef Beefeater event with Sir Ian Botham. The colorful new design was rolled out and competition winners were able to play Cage Cricket, a new urban sport movement open to all.  Cage Cricket see’s 6 players enter the arena with each player spending an over in each zone which means every batsmen faces the same amount of balls, and each player for 1 over. Points are awarded for hitting the ball into each zone with fielders and bowlers also scoring points for catches and wickets taken. Easy and quick to play and great fun, it is easy to see why legends of the game, such as “Beefy” and Shane Warne have given it their backing and support.

Flicx UK are delighted to have designed a new portable pitch exclusively for Cage Cricket which was debuted at the Beefeater corporate event for scratchcard prize winning customers. The pitch is 2/3rds grey to 1/3 white and will be further developed in the future too with the addition of further color and containing the Cage Cricket logo. The pitch performed very well with a fantastic bounce and great feedback leading to some exciting cricket being played. The pitch will soon be available to Cage Cricket customers who need a new surface on which to play. Why not take a look at the video below to see the pitch being rolled out at Bagshot and a practice delivery (with an unexpected visitor!)

After the match, Sir Ian Botham and former England international Alex Tudor and Dean Headley presented prizes before youngster from Bagshot CC enjoyed a game in the Cage too. Flicx UK  look forward to supporting the development of Cage Cricket in the coming months – what a fantastic concept for getting new players into cricket and perfect for schools and for transforming existing MUGA’s into a cricket arena to get more people active.
